So I'll admit it I love Geriatric and Peds (I'm torn between the two), needless to say I do a little moonlighting at SNF's. With that being said, I have begun to obtain more activities that assist with increasing cognitive skills, etc. One of the things I sometimes use are the Workbooks of Activities for Language and Cognition (WALC). For the novice SLP (I say novice b/c I am sure all the seasons vets already know this information), here is the good news some of the materials available in these adult workbook are also useful with younger kids. For example I have a kiddo I have recently inherited for another SLP, who was/is working on sequencing. On one particular day I miss placed the activity I prepared for this child and went into" back-up plan mode" (BPM). You know this is the gear every Therapist switches to when an activity you've plan is not working and you need the session to be productive, meaningful, and fun. Well just my luck one of my WALC books were in my work tote, I flipped through it to sequencing activities and was able to save the session. I know all in a Superhero, I mean SLP's day work. Lol!
