Each year, on February 2nd, people in the United States and Canada celebrate Groundhog's day.
According to old folklores, if it is cloudy when the groundhog emerges from its burrow on this day, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will soon end. However, if it is sunny, the groundhog will supposedly see its shadow and retreat back into its burrow, and winter weather will continue for six more weeks.
As you may have heard or ready by now, this year the groundhog saw his shadow. Bummer, I know!! I was truly looking forward to some warmer days. Nevertheless, in the honoring of Groundhog's Day, I thought you all might enjoy this fun and free speech and language worksheet I created.
I've named the worksheet "Grounding Speech and Language", and it can be found under the the "Printables" tab above. This particular worksheet was designed to be used in a variety of ways. For instance, it can be used for drill and practice, reinforcing any Speech and Language activity, and as a reward. For my over achieving SLPs who have a Groundhog's Day activity already; no worries you can definitely used this as a reward to follow up your great activity.
Ways to use this worksheet: have your students/clients color each Groundhog after providing a correct response or you can do as I do and use a paint dauber. My student love using paint dauber with any activity.
*The graphics that were used for the worksheet were obtained by mycutegraphics.com.
In addition to "Grounding Speech and Language", I would like to share with you all an activity that I found Peeking Groundhog. This activity would be a great conclusion to a language lesson regarding Groundhog's Day. After discussing the history of the day, have your students/clients create the Groundhog puppet. This activity would serve as a great conclusion and vision to the lesson; it would also assist in carryover as you have your students/clients retell the story of Groundhog's Day using the puppet.
